Every officer or agent receiving moneys for the city and payable to the city treasurer shall give a bond for the faithful performance of his duty, and shall be required to make return to the city controller once in every week, or oftener if the council shall direct, under oath or affirmation, of each item of the moneys received by him, and to pay the amount in his hands to the city treasurer. The said city controller is hereby authorized to administer such oath or affirmation, and any person falsely making such oath of 1 affirmation or guilty of falsehood in any other oath or affirmation required by the provisions of this act or by any ordinance of council made in pursuance thereof shall be guilty of perjury.
