New Mexico Territorial Laws and Treaties NM TERR LAWS KEARNY CODE REG OF LANDS § 5

Every person claiming lands in this territory, by virtue of any Spanish or Mexican grant, may deliver to the register of lands a notice in writing stating the nature and extent of his claim, and shall also at the same time deliver to the register of lands, for the purpose of being recorded, the grant, order of survey, deed conveyance or other written evidence of his claims, and the same shall be recorded by the register, for which the party shall pay him twelve and one-half cents per hundred words contained in such written evidence of the claims.
