When a release, relinquishment or conveyance of an inchoate right or estate of curtesy or dower has been or shall be made in accordance with this article, and it shall thereafter appear to the satisfaction of the court that the person entitled to such right or estate has been restored to his or her reason and is of sound mind, the court, upon the execution and filing with it of a release or relinquishment of the right or estate of such person, acknowledged in the manner prescribed by law for the recording of deeds, may direct that any money or other property that may have been paid to the guardian of such person, or that may have been retained or set aside in any manner for the purpose of providing for the enjoyment by such person during his or her natural life of his or her curtesy or dower interest in real estate, be paid to the owner of the premises or to such persons as the court shall find entitled thereto.
