(a) After January 1, 2004, for geographic areas specified by the commissioner, the commissioner by rule may supplement the plan of operation building specifications with the structural provisions of the International Residential Code for one- and two-family dwellings, as published by the International Code Council or an analogous entity recognized by the department.
(b) For a geographic area specified under Subsection (a), the commissioner by rule may adopt a subsequent edition of the International Residential Code for one- and two-family dwellings and may adopt a supplement published by the International Code Council or an amendment to that code.
