Tennessee Code Title 53. Food, Drugs and Cosmetics § 53-1-121

(a) The purpose of this section is to develop a voluntary program for the promotion of meat and byproducts from livestock raised in this state.

(b) For purposes of this section, “livestock” means animals that are born, raised, and harvested in this state for use as food for human utilization or consumption including, but not limited to, cattle, sheep, swine, goats, and poultry.

(c) The department shall promulgate rules to implement and administer a program for the promotion of meat and byproducts from livestock, which may be labeled with an appropriate statement that indicates the meat or byproduct is a Tennessee meat or byproduct.  Rules must be promulgated in accordance with the Uniform Administrative Procedures Act, compiled in title 4, chapter 5.

(d) The department may develop various labels for different types of livestock and their byproducts.

(e) The department shall utilize existing staff and resources to implement and administer the program.

(f) All labels for meat and byproducts developed by the department must be compliant with the requirements of the United States department of agriculture's food safety and inspection service.
