Except for the medically needy, persons eligible for medical assistance may, pursuant to regulations of the department, also receive dental services, vision care provided by a physician skilled in diseases of the eye or by an optometrist prescribed medications, prosthetics and appliances, ambulance transportation, skilled nursing home care for an unlimited period of time, and other remedial, palliative or therapeutic services prescribed by or provided under the direction of a physician or podiatrist.
