The board of supervisors may appoint an assistant treasurer who shall assist the township treasurer or, in the absence or disability of the township treasurer, perform the duties of the township treasurer. The assistant treasurer may be appointed from the membership of the board of supervisors. The assistant treasurer shall be bonded for the same amount as the township treasurer when acting in the capacity of township treasurer. The board of supervisors shall determine the compensation of the assistant treasurer. When a supervisor is appointed assistant treasurer, the board of auditors shall determine the compensation.
