Inside leaders must be constructed of cast-iron, wrought-iron, or steel, with roof connections made gas- and water-tight by means of a heavy lead or copper-drawn tubing, wiped or soldered to a brass ferrule, or nipple caulked, or screwed into the pipe. The tubing must extend at least seven (7) inches into iron leader pipe. Outside leaders may be sheet metal, but they must connect with the house drain by means of a cast-iron pipe extending vertically five (5) feet above the grade level.
