(a) The provisions of this act shall be administered by the Civil Service Commission, hereinafter referred to as the commission, created pursuant to section 1503 1 of the Second Class County Code, act of July 28, 1953 (P.L. 723, No. 230).
(b) In addition to the powers conferred and duties imposed under the provisions of this act in administering this act, the commission may exercise the powers and perform the duties provided for in sections 1503, 1504, 1505, 1506, 1507, 1508 and 1509 2 of the Second Class County Code, except that rules and regulations and examinations shall be approved by, and annual reports shall be submitted to, the sheriff.
