Whenever the sureties of the marshal shall pay the amount for which the action on the marshal's bond is brought, and the costs and disbursements incurred therein, or any part thereof, they shall be entitled to have such sum credited upon the bond upon presenting to the county clerk the affidavit of the plaintiff or his attorney in such action, acknowledging the payment; whereupon said clerk shall endorse the payment on the bond and the bond shall be reduced by the amount so paid.
