The confidential court attendants appointed by the justices of the supreme court in the third judicial district residing in Albany and Rensselaer counties, pursuant to section one hundred sixty-four of this chapter, 1 shall each receive an annual salary not in excess of five thousand dollars, which shall be a charge upon the counties of Albany and Rensselaer, respectively, and shall be paid by the treasurer of each such county, respectively, upon certificate of such justice in monthly installments.
