Whenever a vehicle of a type subject to registration under the laws of this State has been offered for repair to any person or garage and the damage to the vehicle indicates that such damage is the result of gunfire, the person to whom the vehicle was offered for repair shall immediately report the vehicle and condition to the sheriff's office of the county, or the police department of the city, wherein such garage or person is located.
