Except as provided by the acts saved from repeal in section 54:33-4 of this title, nothing contained in chapters 33 to 36 of this title (§ 54:33-1 et seq.) shall affect or impair the lien of any tax assessed or due and payable under any heretofore existing law, or any remedy for the collection thereof, or to surrender any remedies, powers, rights or privileges acquired by this state under any such law, or to relieve any person or corporation from any penalty imposed by any such law; and for such purposes such laws are hereby continued in force.
