Upon application for medical care and hospitalization by any person, or upon the furnishing of the same by the county to any person, in the manner provided in section 1 of this act, 1 the County Adjuster of the county shall ascertain, if possible, the relatives chargeable by law for the support of such person and shall proceed to obtain their assistance or compel them to render assistance in providing medical care and hospitalization in the manner provided in this act or in paying the cost thereof.
