In cases provided for in this article the municipal election to be held in accordance with the “Uniform Nonpartisan Elections Law,” P.L.1981, c. 379 (C.40:45-5 et seq.) shall be held on the second Tuesday in May or on the day of the general election in November if chosen by the municipality pursuant to subsection a. of section 1 of P.L.2009, c. 196 (C.40:45-7.1) in each year, and the number of persons to be elected at municipal elections shall be equal to the number of vacancies which are then to be filled, and the terms of office of the persons so elected shall be 3 years and until their successors are elected and qualified.
