[This act, together with its amendments and supplements, applies to all cities and provides for the government of those which adopt it. The governing body is a city council consisting of two members elected from each ward. The mayor, who is elected at large, is the chief executive officer of the city and has the power to veto the ordinances of the city council and the resolutions of the board of police and fire commissioners when such board is established. The mayor and the councilmen hold office for two years. The act also provides for the election and appointment of various other officers and in addition thereto the following boards: Board of assessors, board of health, board of assessments, board of sinking fund commissioners, board of water commissioners, board of fire commissioners and board of police commissioners. The council is empowered to pass ordinances for specific purposes and for the general government of the city; a recorder's court is provided to try violations of such ordinances and other offenses. The act also provides for the making of improvements, the levying, assessment and raising of taxes, and the management of the financial affairs of such cities.]
