If the commissioner of registration has maintained information in any form regarding a registrant's party affiliation , the commissioner shall be responsible for maintaining that information for a period of 10 years as part of the current voter information file of the registrant if it is already on computer or magnetic tape or electronic data processing equipment of any kind and for converting such information to such tape or equipment if the information exists but is not on such tape or equipment, so that it becomes part of the Statewide voter registration system.
