New Jersey Statutes Appendix - Former Title 3A Administration of Estates Decedents and Others 3A § 6-33

If a resident of this State has or shall abscond or absent himself therefrom for a period of 2 years, leaving a child under the age of 18 without sufficient provision for maintenance and education, the surrogate's court of the county wherein the child resides, or the Superior Court, may appoint a guardian for his person or estate or both. The court to which the guardian is accountable may revoke the appointment when it shall appear proper.
