If the personal estate and the income of the real estate of a minor be not sufficient for his support and education, the superior court or the county court to which the guardian is accountable, upon full investigation of all the circumstances, may, from time to time, direct the guardian to sell so much of the timber growing or being upon the lands of the minor or such part of his real estate as it may deem adequate and advisable for such purpose.
