An officer or employee of the municipality may not have a financial interest, direct or indirect, in any contract with the municipality or be financially interested, directly or indirectly, in the sale to the municipality of any land, materials, supplies, or services except on behalf of the municipality as an officer or employee. Any willful violation of this section constitutes malfeasance in office, and any officer or employee found guilty shall forfeit the office or position. A violation of this section with the knowledge, actual or implied, of the person or corporation contracting with the municipality renders the contract involved voidable by the manager or the commission.
