(1) Except as provided in subsection (2), the training coordinator may act as special counsel upon request of the county attorney with the approval of the governing body of a county.
(2) If a case involves the prosecution of a member of the governing body of a county or a person related to a member by consanguinity within the fourth degree or affinity within the second degree, the coordinator may, with the consent of the attorney general, act as special counsel upon request of the county attorney without approval of the governing body of the county.
