An assignment for the benefit of creditors must be recorded and the inventory required by 31-2-213 must be filed with the county clerk of the county in which the assignor resided at the date of the assignment or, if the assignor did not reside in this state at that time, with the clerk of the county in which the assignor's principal place of business was situated or, if the assignor did not have a residence or place of business in this state, with the clerk of the county in which the principal part of the assigned property was situated at the time of the assignment.
