(1) There is a sexual assault prosecution unit in the prosecution services bureau of the department of justice. The unit is under the supervision and control of the attorney general and, subject to the availability of appropriated funds, consists of the agents and employees of the department whom the attorney general considers necessary and appropriate, including but not limited to at least two people who are licensed to practice law in Montana and who are qualified by education, training, experience, and high professional competence to prosecute sexual assault crimes.
(2) The sexual assault prosecution unit shall assist and train county attorneys and local law enforcement in the prosecution of sexual assault crimes.
