Whoever sells, exposes for sale, ships or receives on board a vessel in casks, any lime manufactured in the commonwealth, other than such as is contained in casks made according to the preceding section and marked or branded as provided in section two hundred and sixty-three, shall be punished by a fine of one dollar and fifty cents for each cask sold, exposed for sale, shipped or received on board a vessel; but sections two hundred and sixty-two to two hundred and sixty-eight, inclusive, shall not prevent any person from retailing lime by the bushel or other quantity, when not in casks.
