Massachusetts General Laws Part I. Administration of the Government (Ch. 1-182) Ch. 2, § 3

The flag of the commonwealth shall consist of a white rectangular field, bearing on either side a representation of the arms of the commonwealth, except that the star shall be white. The naval and maritime flag of the commonwealth shall consist of a white rectangular field bearing on either side a representation of a green pine tree.
