The director of the division of state parks and recreation shall devote his whole time during business hours to the work of the division and shall be responsible for the performance of the functions of the division as specified by law. Each subdivision or section of the division shall be under his direction, control and supervision. The director may appoint and remove such officials and employees as the work of the division may require and may from time to time assign to such officials and employees such duties as the work of the division may require, subject to chapters 30 and 31, except as provided by chapter 583 of the acts of 1947.
