Whenever under the provisions of this act 1 provision is made for the abolishment of the office of district judge in any judicial district, and the district judge holding any such office shall die, resign or retire during the four (4) years next preceding the date fixed for the abolishment of such office, such office shall be and is hereby abolished at the time of such death, resignation or retirement.
