§ 11-45-3. The levy shall be authorized if a majority of the votes cast on the question are in favor of the levy. The corporate authorities shall then levy a tax sufficient to maintain or employ such a band or to provide for the maintenance and conduct of programs in the performing arts, or both, but not exceeding .04% of the value of the taxable property within the municipality, as equalized or assessed by the Department of Revenue, and not exceeding the amount stated in the petition. This annual tax shall be in addition to the amount authorized to be levied for general purposes as provided by Section 8-3-1.
Except as provided in Section 11-45-4, all funds derived from this levy shall be expended as provided in Section 11-45-1.
The foregoing limitation upon the rate of tax may be increased or decreased under the referendum provisions of the General Revenue Law of Illinois. 1
