The division of criminal investigation of the department of public safety may investigate to determine licensee compliance with the requirements of this chapter. Investigations may be conducted either on the criminal investigation division's own initiative or at the request of the department of inspections, appeals, and licensing. The criminal investigation division and the department of inspections, appeals, and licensing shall cooperate to the maximum extent possible on an investigation.
