The attorney general shall conduct annual audits of a representative sample of criminal justice agencies which may be chosen on a random basis, to verify the accuracy and completeness of criminal history record information maintained by such agencies, and to determine adherence with this chapter and regulations promulgated thereunder. Criminal justice agencies shall retain appropriate records to facilitate the annual audits. Audit of the data center shall be performed by another state agency.
