Prior to taking or attempting to take into custody the principal on a bond, a professional bondsman licensed under chapter 533, 1 a surety bail bond agent licensed under chapter 700f 2 or a bail enforcement agent licensed under sections 29-152f to 29-152i, inclusive, shall notify the police department or resident state trooper for, or state police troop having jurisdiction over, the municipality in which the principal is believed to be located of such bondsman's or agent's intentions.
