The Department of Disabilities, Aging, and Independent Living is created within the Agency of Human Services as the successor to and continuation of the Department of Aging and Disabilities, the Developmental Services Division of the Department of Developmental and Mental Health Services, and the personal care and hi-tech programs in the former Department of Prevention, Assistance, Transition, and Health Access to manage programs and to protect the interests of older Vermonters and Vermonters with disabilities. It shall serve as the State unit on aging, as provided by the Older Americans Act of 1965, 1 as amended, and it shall serve as the administrative home within the Agency of Human Services for the designated State agencies for federal Vocational Rehabilitation and Independent Living Programs, as provided by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, 2 as amended.
