(a) The commission may not designate a part of the highway system, including a bridge or street, by a name, including the name of a living individual or for an organization or event, or by a symbol other than the regular highway number.
(b) Except as otherwise provided by statute, a part of the highway system, including a bridge or street, may not be designated by a name.
(c) A part of the highway system, including a bridge or street, may be designated by the name of a person only if the person is deceased and was significant:
(1) in the state's history; or
(2) in the lives of the people of this state.
