(a) A county that has paid group health and related benefits for a sheriff, deputy sheriff, constable, deputy constable, or other county or precinct law enforcement official is subrogated to the law enforcement official's right of recovery for personal injuries caused by another to the extent of the payments made by the county.
(b) A county may not refuse to pay group health and related benefits on the ground that the law enforcement official has a claim for damages for personal injury.
