(a) Except as provided in § 8-35-123(c), any person who becomes a member of the general assembly on or after July 1, 2025, shall become a member of the retirement system as a condition of taking office.
(b) Any person who became a member of the general assembly before July 1, 2025, and who made an irrevocable election to become a member of the retirement system shall continue membership in the retirement system, as authorized by the employer and chapters 34-37 of this title.
