Local authorities with respect to highways under their jurisdiction may, by ordinance or resolution, prohibit the operation of trucks or other commercial vehicles, or may impose limitations as to the weight of those vehicles on designated highways, which prohibitions and limitations shall be designated by appropriate signs placed on the highways. For the purposes of this section, a suburban vehicle, as defined in § 31-1-3(u), shall not be deemed to be a truck or commercial vehicle.
