Whenever an agreement or supplemental agreement shall be executed between an employer or his insurer and an employe or his dependents as provided by this act, such agreement shall be executed in triplicate. It shall be the duty of the department to examine the agreement to determine whether it conforms to the provisions of this act and rules and regulations hereunder. The employer or the insurer as the case may be shall immediately furnish one copy of the agreement to the employe or his dependents and forward another copy or copies to the department as required by rules and regulations. If compensation payments have not already been made, compensation shall be commenced forthwith upon execution of the agreement.
