(a) Authorization.--The board of commissioners may establish or abolish by ordinance the office of township manager. If the board of commissioners establishes the office of township manager, the board of commissioners may appoint an individual, partnership, limited partnership, association or professional corporation as the township manager.
(b) Nature of office.--The township manager shall serve at the pleasure of the board of commissioners, subject to contractual rights that may arise under an employment agreement or professional services agreement that may be entered in accordance with section 3702 (relating to powers, duties and agreements).
