If the amount of an account, settled in accordance with section 903 of this act, 1 shall not be paid into the State Treasury, through the Department of Revenue, within fifteen days from the date of settlement of such account, the same shall be placed in the hands of the Department of Justice for collection, and if the Department of Revenue shall deem it conducive to the public interest to proceed immediately upon such account against the sureties of such officer, the Department of Revenue shall request the Department of Justice so to do, and the Department of Justice shall proceed in accordance with such request.
In any suit brought by the Commonwealth against such defaulting officer or his sureties, interest shall be allowed and computed in favor of the Commonwealth, from the time the public money sued for came to the hands or should have been in the hands of such officer.
