The widow of any member of the Pennsylvania State Police, the State Highway Patrol or the Pennsylvania Motor Police whose husband died prior to January 1, 1938, as a direct and proximate result of injuries received in the course of his employment, shall, commencing with the effective date of this act, and so long as she remains his widow and does not remarry, receive a monthly payment equal to fifty percent of the monthly salary of such member at the time of his death.
It shall be the duty of the Pennsylvania State Police to determine the persons entitled to payments pursuant to the provisions of this act.
