(a) General rule.--An individual may not be elected to a county office, except the office of district attorney, as provided for under this part, unless the person is:
(1) at least 18 years of age;
(2) a citizen of the United States;
(3) a resident of the county; and
(4) has resided within the county for at least the directly preceding year prior to the election.
(b) Sheriff.--In addition to the qualifications under subsection (a), an individual may not be eligible for the office of sheriff except in accordance with 44 Pa.C.S. Ch. 74 Subch. C 1 (relating to sheriff and deputy sheriff education and training).
