(1) At the time that a homestead that is the subject of special assessment deferral is deeded to a unit of local government at the close of collection proceedings, the appropriate officer of the local government unit shall pay to the Department of Revenue out of the general fund of the local government unit the amount of deferred special assessment, and accrued interest, which was not collected in the same manner as other deferred special assessments for local improvement are paid over to the department when collected.
(2) Any amount paid over to the department under subsection (1) of this section, if later collected, shall be paid to reimburse the general fund of the local government unit and the necessary entries shall be made upon the special assessment records.
