There is hereby created in the state treasury the scenic rivers protection fund. The fund shall consist of the donations to the fund received by the department of natural resources under section 1517.02 of the Revised Code and the contributions not to exceed forty dollars that are paid to the registrar of motor vehicles by applicants who voluntarily choose to obtain scenic rivers license plates pursuant to section 4503.56 of the Revised Code.
The donations and contributions deposited in the fund shall be used by the department to help finance conservation, education, protection, restoration, and habitat enhancement and clean-up projects within the watersheds of wild, scenic, and recreational rivers. All investment earnings of the fund shall be credited to the fund.
As used in this section, “wild river,” “scenic river lands,” “scenic river,” and “recreational river” have the same meanings as in section 1517.01 of the Revised Code.
