a. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, each public retirement system, as defined in subdivision a of section eight hundred of this article, other than the New York state teachers' retirement system, is authorized to reproduce all or any part of its records by any computerized process which accurately produces a digital image of a paper record. Whenever the retirement system shall have so reproduced such records and whenever such reproductions or media have been placed in conveniently accessible files and provision has been made for preserving, examining and using the same, the retirement system may cause the original record which has been so reproduced to be disposed of or destroyed.
b. A duly authorized representative of the retirement system is hereby authorized to certify to the authenticity of any reproduction herein authorized. The retirement system may charge for copies of reproductions of such records as provided for by applicable law, rules or regulations.
