Notwithstanding the provisions of this chapter or any other state or local law to the contrary, an elected county, city, town, or village official may continue in a current term of such elective office at the time of their retirement from another position of public service. Retention of such elective office, limitation on earnings and/or reduction or suspension of retirement payments shall be subject to the same terms and conditions for re-employment in public service imposed pursuant to the provisions of this chapter and/or the provisions of the civil service law.
