Notwithstanding any other provision of law, any member who has joined the retirement system pursuant to the provisions of article fourteen of this chapter on or after July first, two thousand nine may elect to have his or her retirement benefits calculated pursuant to this article by filing within one hundred twenty days of the effective date of this section a request for such calculation with the retirement system in the form and manner prescribed by the state comptroller.
