The authority shall have power to construct or acquire, and to equip, own and operate, within or without the territorial limits of the district, any properties and any and all other real and personal property, used, connected with or appertaining to the furnishing and transmission of electric current for light, heat and power, for the purpose of furnishing such service to the district and to any corporate or natural persons in such district and also, for such purpose, to purchase electrical energy from the power authority of the state of New York, or from any state agency, or from any municipality, or from any private or public corporation.
