Each of the resident trial justices of the supreme court in the eighth judicial district, except those residing in Erie county, may appoint and at pleasure remove and prescribe the duties of a stenographer. Each stenographer shall receive an annual salary as established by the board of supervisors of the county of the appointing judge's residence. Such salary shall be a charge against the county of the appointing justice's residence and shall be paid by the treasurer thereof in semi-monthly installments.
