The council shall conduct a study relating to standards for egress including provisions for multi-unit residential buildings above three stories, up to at least six stories. Such study shall consider examining existing building codes for single-exit, single stairway multi-unit residential buildings above three stories, up to at least six stories in the city of New York and in other cities and jurisdictions that have adopted provisions allowing for the construction of such buildings into their building codes. Such study shall be completed on or before July first, two thousand twenty-six. The council shall consider such study findings and amend the uniform code if necessary.
