The board of supervisors may create the office of county service officer and appoint such officer for the term for which the membership of such board was elected. The county service officer shall assist members of the armed forces and veterans and their dependents in obtaining any benefits and awards to which they may be entitled under any federal, state or local legislation. He shall perform such additional and related duties as may be prescribed by law and directed by the board of supervisors.
